This is dedicated to my baby. dum spiro, ti amo. Forever and ever.

I was on the train to school today and I saw two children sitting in my cabin, with their mothers sitting separately near by. What's so special? There are always children with their mums.
The children are from Pathlight Special School and they were holding a small pot of plant and two storybooks among them. One of them is a Malay boy, another is a Chinese girl. Both of them look like any normal child you'd see on the streets. It doesn't matter to them that they are of different races, and it doesn't matter to them that there are people looking at them, especially at the school name at the back of their uniform. They were reading to each other and when they got bored of the books, they started competing to see who could run to the door and back faster. They were not a lot of people, so the path to the door was not blocked by anyone. They tried this a few times and from their smiles and laughter, anyone could tell that they were really enjoying themselves and having fun! Their mothers were looking at them and smiling and I remember at one point, they were asking the children what they want for lunch. The boy said "Chicken rice!" and the girl agreed, saying "We can go eat together later ok."
It's really heartwarming to see children interacting like this, irregardless of race or religion, like what our national pledge says. They are contented with the simple joy of playing and eating together. Their parents had to struggle to bring up the children in a not-very-inclusive society and yet, you don't see the cynical mindsets of typical Singaporean adults in them. What will happen in future if our society continues to remain out of reach to these special children? Will they grow up carefree? Will they grow up not worrying about how others perceive them?
